Bleak Burns Bright Poem by James D. Faulkner

Bleak Burns Bright

Life like acid.
Corrosive, destructive.
Eating away the foundation.
Black around the edges.
Like ink,
Spilled onto glass,
Slowly filling in empty space.
Toxic, dangerous.
Like a bad taste,
Lingering and strengthening.

Fading,
Everything is fading.
Memories, fading.
Emotions, fading.
Hopes, dreams,
Fading.
A total absence of light.

Falling,
The ground collapses below
And the sensation of falling continues.
Falling deeper,
Deeper into the abyss.
Falling,

Right into your arms.
You caught me.
Reparing,
Everything is repairing.
Memories, new and vibrant.
Emotions, strong and secure.
Hopes, dreams,
All with you,
All repaired.

You've taught me so much,
To forgive,
Forget,
Laugh,
Care,
Love and how to be loved.
Thanks to you,
The darkness was the only thing to fade.
