Big Mommas Poem by Juan Olivarez

Big Mommas

Rating: 5.0

Cathedral City, in southern California,
So hungry after the picture show.
My son the Staff Sargent says,
'How about Big Momma's'
And in my ignorance I replied,
What is a Big Mommas?
My son the Staff Sargent just smiled.
So we drove to Big Mommas,
And we walked in the door.
And we got a table, on the west side,
With the glorious California sun,
Shining in.
And this pretty, blond, blue eyed, girl,
(Who spoke perfect Spanish)
Takes our order.
No beer today.
Some half wit was having an argument,
With his main squeeze.
So he follows her outside, with a beer bottle,
In his hand.
And guess who was there?
Thats right Johnny on the spot,
A.K.A. mr. liquor control.
So no beer today, next week maybe.
So we had to settle, no thats not the word,
Because we drank kool-aid,
And it was so much superior to any,
Hops product.
Then came Big Momma's B.B.Q. ribs,
Oh my good lord, the meat just fell off the bones.
And there was fried okra,
And black eyed peas.
I turned to look at my son,
The Staff Sargent,
And that smile was still on his face.
So I smiled back.
Big Mommas, Cathedral City California,
Yes Elvira, I know,
I'm drooling again.
