Bible No More Poem by Harlan Simantel

Bible No More

i read that book
no more
jesus promises
merely fictional lore

i watched my friend
evelyn painfully squirm
rheumatoid arthritis
God's worm

on a bed of sweat
arizona hot summers
no air conditioning
phoenix heat

sure we prayed
those mennonites and me

ask anything in my name
and i'll do it
jesus claim

a memory of a bed
of pain
no healing
all that remain

a certain 'savior' liar
his legacy
his claim to fame
