Better Than That Poem by Cee Bea

Better Than That

He reads the headlines from the daily
'For Useless Capitalistic Knowledge'
of the runaway bride
of the new lobby, with a grand piano
and day at the Opera
in the New Hope hospital.

I watch the broker barons
smile,
his mouthful of
filed teeth, tear and gnash
as he gobbles down another bucket of
Kentucky fried crab legs.

He seems so calloused and ungrateful
spitting out shell fragments while the grease
shimmers around his ugly pie-hole.

I Watch the rats
that feed from his leftovers
as they
scurry about in a 'yes' rat way,
fighting over the fallen shells with remnants
of flesh.

'Let the games begin' he mumbles as they fight
for what little is left

tossing the bucket aside
missing the garbage tin,
he grabs his hanky
wiping with one pass
the grease that dripped
on his Italian leather shoes

and continues on

He lumbers across the the land
laughing at those with less,
suffering first and most
with every inflated acquisition.
Laughing as dreams as well as hope,
die when another

401k came tumbling down

I hear his mind
'We Take Over,
shock and awe,
stupid little creatures
stupid, stupid, stupid'

I have watched his escapades
for far too long

I take to my home and
become so angry that I begin
pushing pins into an effigy
that I have quickly
manifested

Take.... That! !

I look up, to see my own ugly
face reflected in the mirror.

this... is what he looks like.

my face turns pale

I pull the pins out
place them back in the pincushion
where they belong

grab some Scooby doo band-aids
and apologize
as I dress the wounds.

all the while hoping
I am better than that.
