Best Friend Poem by Michelle Love

Best Friend

It was never supposed to happen
But as each day passed, I could not fight my feelings
We started out not speaking
Then we gradually got to know each other
Out of the group, I identified with you most
You let me ramble
Laughed at my corny jokes
Kept my secrets secret
Tucked me in at night
Even checked for monsters under the bed
But as each day passed, I could not fight my feelings
They were not supposed to be there
I tried to not to like you
Attempted to hate you
Everything failed
Then one night changed everything
I gave myself to you
Wanted the liquor to take the blame
But everyone knows, alcohol speaks a sober mind
I expressed my feelings and desires toward you
You, my best friend….whom I had many feelings for
The feelings weren’t mutual
I felt used and abused
Even embarrassed
Tried to avoid you
Cried
Even tried to fight you
But even you couldn’t keep away
I drew blood yet you still came back
I feel sorry for you
Each day I’m hypnotizing you
Soon you’ll be under my spell
You are going to fall in love with me
One day
Then finally
Our feelings will be mutual
Best Friend
