Belonging Poem by sammie annamaria merlo rodriguos

Belonging

i feel that i don't belong in my community
i feel isolated and judged
i feel like they think i don't exist

just because i am committed to someone of another race
just because i don't go out and party my nights away
just because i choose pen and paper over drugs and alcohol

screw the community thinks,
i do what i like because it my life

screw the media says,
i don't want my mind poisoned with lies

screw the life of drugs and alcohol
i don't want a life of death

it doesn't matter if we are black or white
it doesn't matter if we are Catholic Muslim atheist
it doesn't matter if we are poor or rich

we live in a world of communities
we live in a world of family and friends
we live in a world of belonging together as one

we BELONG everywhere...
