Belfast Lough Poem by Francis Duggan

Belfast Lough

By Belfast Lough close to Port Fairy Town
On the soft brown het for to rest I did lay down
The little grebe nearby dived and surfaced further away
Their fear of man not unfounded one might say.

The spur winged plovers calling as they fly
Above the lush and green paddocks nearby
And the cawing of a crow echoes in the morning air
With his own kind some message he does share.

Belfast Lough is an inlet of the sea
A place of beauty and tranquility
A place to where few humans come and go
That echoes to the call of the ibis and the crow.

A pleasant morning in the month of May
The first of Winter just two weeks away
In a quiet place to find some peace and ease
The waters rippled by a gentle breeze.
