Because My Eyes Were Closed Poem by Natalia Bakina

Because My Eyes Were Closed

Half-dozing in my isolation,
Strange phantoms bringing consolation…
My feelings were intense,
And every little sense
Rated to the utmost
Because my eyes were closed.

The dizzying emptiness inside,
The visions that I tried to fight
So rapidly got centered
Around him who’d entered.
My thrill was unexposed
Because my eyes were closed.

The sound of his simple grace -
His breath, the rustle of his pace,
The faintest smell at his advance –
All merged into eternal trance.
I keep the image posed
Because my eyes were closed.

Sensual intrusions in my dream
That rushed me into the extreme…
He managed to have done so much
When I soaked up his gentle touch.
Was it a smile or just its ghost?
Can’t tell because my eyes were closed.

The shadows flicked across my face,
His soothing voice gave me embrace.
Such dutiful and mundane care,
He left so quickly unaware
That then this ordinary measure
Would make a memory I treasure.

I didn’t sleep, I dozed
My eyes were tightly closed.
