Beauty Poem by anujan raja

Beauty

,

At noon
Two crows sit on a bough
Wrapped in silent camaraderie.
A ginger kitten
Silently licking its tiny paws
And washing its little face.
A brownish shapeless slug
On the underside of the lid
Of a big plastic watertank,
Curled up in a slimy groove
In blissful nirvana
Out in the open green field
A couple of white herons
In the midmorning sun
Dancing about a dappled cow
Hopefully searching for
A worm or two
In the trampled grass.
A loud-singing cuckoo
Invisible in the thick foliage
Of the big mango tree
Spreading joy everywhere.
A brick-red crab peeking out
Of the hole in the corner
Of the waterlogged backyard
On its furtive reconnaissance.
A tiny lonesome ant
Struggling with a morsel of food,
Dragging it home
To replenish its winter's larder.
In the morning sun
A little green spider
Lurks in the far corner
Of its silken net
Bejewelled in the morning dew
Lying in ambush
Awaits an early breakfast.

Nature's infinite variety
And life's never-fading beauty,
I possess eyes and ears
And I see them not
Am I the loser?
