Beautiful And Wise.... Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

Beautiful And Wise....

Rating: 5.0

Old age is beautiful,
old age is full of wisdom
the wisest person in my life
are my grandparents
I never regard them as old and worn
and to them never a scorn

in Asian countries
grandparents are most valuable yuppies
their children keep them at their own home
to watch and check their kids
when they are not at home
so it is constantly coziest for us
we are spoilt by them through and through

I thank God in Heaven that
I have not experienced them
that they are sent to a retirement home
like most old people in my surrounds here

their grown-up children only visit them
once a month
their lies is a treason
they tell their parents constantly lies
they have to work, to cook
and to clean the house

What does it mean
every week a day a visit
compared to a loveless life
for the rest of their lives in solitude?

These old people have raised their kids with much love
is this their thankfulness?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Old age is Beautiful. Appreciate that. Have respect for old people.
There is wisdom and life is still blooming.
We are getting old too
To be alive in this life, is never getting younger.
It is constant getting older each and everyday.
Just watch the wisest people.
Then you will respect how they have survived in poverty feeding all the hungry mouths. Their children get their food, as parents themselves, perhaps they go every night to bed with an empty stomach.

What an outstanding, beautiful, beautiful poem! Full of kindness and human feeling. Your understanding of old age and its sadness, solitude is amazing. The way you express what you see and feel on the subject, a limpid pool of light and compassion. The unjust treatment of the old by many is presented in all its intolerable sadness. Wish all would read this poem and have their hearts moved as mine has been. Thank you, Silvia. You have a beautiful Soul
