Bars Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Bars

Closed firmly to the prison bars
that secluded you,
the lying streetlights are
polluting with fallacious people

Inner demons slither
In and out of your trendy collar,
choking as the fumes of yesterday
ripped you off your dignity, times two

Stapled to your quivering words
the songs we used to sing
have melted on the pavements;
your bed has taken you away from me

Scribbled on your skin
was the answer all along;
these chains, these prison bars
have always been guarded by you
