Away With You Poem by Euginia Tan

Away With You

Jazz.
The lilting sexy raspiness
Of a seductress
With a fur boa on her neck.
Her voice is rich.
It is the first bite of
A bitter chocolate truffle.
The taste, it lingers.
It turns you into an addict,
You want to bring her home
Explore
Under the slit of her dress.

Cigar.
A fat man with a bowler hat
Strolls across the street
Where an anonymous letter
Floats past his feet.
'Meet me at the lobby.
Nine. I will
Bring the wine.
Signed…'
The smoke masks his face.

Film Noir.
The cars on the street are
All black.
The light off the lamps are
Deathly white.
The voices on the screen are
Accented. Ripe.
You are watching as a murder weapon
Is unraveled in a bath tub
And a man with a loaded gun
Dare not bring himself to shoot
The elusive vamp
With a fringe covering one side
Of her powdered face.

Away with you
Into the realm of the underdog.
The thriving hub of
The night crawling criminals
Luring you in with the bait of
Jazz. Cigars.
Fancy hats.
Gleaming cars.

Come away with me.
