Autumn Has Arrived Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Autumn Has Arrived

Rating: 5.0

Autumn appears as September makes its exit
I don't need for a calendar to know that it is so
A balance is found between night and day
Then hours of light get shorter as Fall says hello

The squirrels begin to scamper with a degree
of mad intoxication…delirious with excitement
Intent on harvesting walnuts after they plummet
from trees across the street onto the pavement

Furry tanned varmints are quick to dodge traffic
As they collect sustenance... clad in protective armor
Digging holes… storing treasures in miniature valts
The gatherers work diligently 'til dark like farmers

It is their internal knowledge that persuades them
to complete their life essential task before snow flies
As Autumn lays it's head onto a pillow of rusting leaves
Winter's soft blanket will soon float down from the sky
