At Port Mansfield Poem by Juan Olivarez

At Port Mansfield

The floodlights glow bright, with their vibrant green,
Over the choppy waves of the nervous sea.
The stars shine down, on a surreal scene,
The salt spray on my face, gently welcomes me.

Up in the sky, a shooting star fiercely glows,
And burns out in the Earth's atmosphere.
Falling to the sea, and I ask if she knows,
That she's in the hearts of everyone here.

I'm at Port Mansfield staring out at the sea,
Enveloped in darkness, listening to the waves.
The mother of all, that one day set us free,
When we crawled out of her, as newborn babes.
