As Australia's First People Poem by Francis Duggan

As Australia's First People

In the governance of their Country they do not have a say
The descendants of Australia's first people today
Whose ancestors were the victims of dispossession and murder and crime
They have been in Australia for milleniums of time
Most of Australia's first people relatively poor does remain
Whilst from the assets of their beautiful homeland many materially gain
The price offoreign occupationfor indigenous people huge for to pay
In so many Countries it has been this way
Though their ways and their culture few wish to understand
They will always be the first people of this great southern Land
Their children taken from them in time going back the years
They have been the victims ofsorrow and tears
And though others from their Country materially does gain
As Australia's first people they will always remain.

The aborigines right. Ah it's sad when the indigenous are driven to the background socially and financially but it happens in other places too ah. Your poem is a great one, compassionate and thoughtful and shows you have a noble soul if you are not them but think of them. Kudos. , Pleez do comment my newest poem too titled, 'when life was really child's play'
