~arbeit Macht Frei~ Poem by Alicia Rose

~arbeit Macht Frei~

Rating: 2.8

-'Arbeit Macht Frei' is German for: 'Work Will Get You Free'-

I sit here in this dark corner
Watching the shadows move across the ceiling
Listening to the water hit the ground
Wondering if we will ever be found
Somedays I'll sit here
Praying for forgiveness
Trying to pass the time
Is God able to help me?
Are these thoughts even mine? !
sometimes I just want to get myself
Locked up in the chamber
With a billion other people
That I won't be seeing later

When I first came here
There were thousands of other people
That all looked like me!
Some were
Holding hands
Coming up
And saying that they loved me
I looked for them the next day
And learned that they were gassed
The only known survivor
Was the Gestapo with the mask
And now I'm lying
Under the big red sun
Waiting for the S.S
To end me with his gun

-It's about Aushcwitz-

Work will free you, the sign declared in no uncertain terms that was hanging over the iron gates of the camp in occupied Poland. And who contested that statement except those Brits, Yanks and their allies?
