Anything To Offer Poem by Lee Hutchinson

Anything To Offer

I know I'm not clever
But then I'm not dim.
It's the words that confuse me
My mind in a spin

I can picture ideas
Vivid and true
But try and describe them?
My words just won't do.

I'm better at speaking
Than writing or reading,
But again "Work in silence!
I don't want no cheating! "

Most kids have finished
But I've hardly started,
I can't read the passage
The words have all parted.

I know I'm not clever
But I know I'm not dim.
I just need some help
To release what's within.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
As an ex teacher so many students struggle not through a lack of ideas or creativity but simply by the dogmatic approach in this country to education and what is deemed 'intelligence'.
