Answerphone Poem by Edith Oram

Answerphone

Patient watcher of the skies,
Pensively receptive
To oncoming radio waves
Pointing in her direction.
Ivory plastic rectangle
Buttons to press,
Tape that plays
Messages from absent friends.
Tinkling shrilly
Now she comes aliove.
