Anam Cara Poem by Suu Casey Young

Anam Cara

Love and greetings Anam Cara
at last we meet.
Older than the hills
is our friendship.
Ever will it last.

My other half.
My other self.
Ready I am to reveal myself,
but only to you,
only to you,
my Anam Cara.

Anam Cara it’s not too late
For time is not a measure of friendship.
Have we not deified the sun and the moon,
fought from castle ramparts,
travelled on a steam train,
flown in an aeroplane?

It matters not,
for we are here,
together,
now.
Anam Cara,
my soul recognises,
embraces you,
and is joyous.

Anam Cara it’s not too soon,
For friendship needs no plan.
Let us share our intimacies,
keep no secrets from each other,
fuel the hunger for completeness
recognise we are but one half of the other.

Let life giving light
connect the distance between us.
There is no you,
nor is there an I.
It is us whose lives are interwoven,
in a friendship
not of one lifetime,
but of eternity.
Love and greetings Anam Cara
