An Old Poet Can't Say Poem by Donal Mahoney

An Old Poet Can't Say

The old poet has agreed to read
his poems in Hanley Hall
if a student will push his

wheelchair on stage. Agreed.
And students must agree not to ask
what his poems mean. Agreed.

If asked, he will wheel off the stage.
If he knew what his poems mean
he would have written them in prose
