An Old Flame Poem by Shipra Agarwal

An Old Flame

You could spot the twinkle of my eyes
in a crowded street, from across the miles
And there was nothing I wouldn't do
to see your lips twirl into a smile.

I knew it then and so did you
the meaning of the word we never aloud said,
Why then, when I see you now
there's a question touching your forehead?

May be it was never meant to be
Or perhaps we didn't give it a try,
Don't bother yourself with the why-nots now
We were a li'l too young, a li'l too shy.

The hour has passed now
where we stand today is a different dawn.
Time has eased the sting out of my what-ifs
may be you too should now move on.
