An Impregnable Keystone Poem by Doris Cornago

An Impregnable Keystone

KEY's easy smile is mythical
Wrought in cold stone
Deep inside a fort
Kept for long
Couldn't
Allow
Himself
Deep emotions
Logical is his call
Determination his motto
Keeps an impregnable keystone

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
You cannot say you know a man until he is at the lowest rung of the ladder but still at his best performance, slugging it out, bloodied but unbowed. It's not what he holds that defines him, but what he does when he has almost nothing. This is my sum of 6 years working with this man, my boss, and my alter-ego.

Doris, You have beautifully captured the spirit and strength of this wonderful man in your poem. Someone all of us would do well to meet, emulate and learn from. A spectacular write!

Indeed. He is in all of us, I believe and seeing a man like him makes us believe that the human spirit is never defeated but strives on through all of us, in whatever physical or mental condition we are. Thank you for this reflection from a kindred spirit, Captain Cur.

Hi Kostas. You and he are of the same mold, but of a different persuasion. You should meet soon. :)

A keystone (also known as capstone) is the wedge-shaped stone piece at the apex of a masonry arch, or the generally round one at the apex of a vault. In both cases it is the final piece placed during construction and locks all the stones into position, allowing the arch or vault to bear weight. See how important it is to be impregnable?

Strength is acting out from a logical mind and not from intensity of passion; it's knowing you can crush but also, relying on your better judgment not to, and going on your way, unhindered by distractions or obligations.

Thank you for your appreciation, Aj. I think we all have this fortitude in our character as humans but we sometimes give in due to a lot of pressures and impatience to wait things out. Success is actually a choice but a hard fought one. :)

Indeed he is. You see him at his fullest when he's down. :)
