Addiction Poem by John Calvin Cochrane

Addiction

Addiction

The scarred wounds that
run deep into the flesh
of an unforgiving shame.
This blade of addiction feels
good as it cuts out pain.

My numb heart
now masking blame,
to prosecute, such
this selfish game.

Deepest fears now appear
as a love lost in vain,
faded now like tears
shed in yesterday’s rain.

In soaked fears, my mother’s
endless bleeding found in
needless guilt in my selfish
ways.

I now remain; Once open arms.
To find new paths of truth;
The faith to heal past storms
of destructive lies.
