A War to get to You
Poem

Being far from you,
and fighting a war that is not mine.
Make me realize the beautiful things
That comes from my life
from the day I made you my wife
& kiss our children goodnight
I was out of your sight
to go and fight
in the middle of the night
I held you tight
and told you things gonna be alright
because I'm the one keeping you safe
through the middle of the night.
Someday I'll be back home to you
I pray that it's real soon
as I fight my way back to you
they fold my flag and give it to you
and give you bad news
that I won't be coming home
no time soon
