A‘wall Of Restraint’ Poem by guy lipmore

A‘wall Of Restraint’

It dissects a land like a giant scar, defacing all in its way,
People wish it would ‘go away’
It is unlikely to do that, it probably will always stay.
That solemn un-yielding divide,
With which the ‘East Berliner’s are denied.

After more than twenty years of guns, towers, wire and cement,
It’s a symbol of permanent torment.

People keep trying to escape to the West,
For freedom from the system they detest.
For the simple freedom of speech, to speak their mind,
Where in the East, they cannot find.

A small percentage does make it over the wall,
But the majority fail, are shot and fall.
It has split up whole families and friends for years and years,
Causing endless frustrating grief and tears.
And all the suffering will remain it appears.
