A Walk In My Valley Poem by Dorothy Sinha

A Walk In My Valley

Rating: 5.0

The summers are brittle
in my valley
covered in red laterite dust
there’s water little
and vegetation sparse
you may crack a dried stalk
as you walk
or a wilted weed
or a yellow leaf, or an ungerminated seed

At the first drop of rain
you will sleep again
to the smell of wet earth
the wait has been worth
as life gives birth
yet again
The 'flame lily'
taken for dead
now springs to life
and blooms daily
The 'mariposa' in abundance
blooms to make up for absence
fills with enticing fragrance
and soothing appearance

In autumn
as the quantum
of daylight reduce
Winters’ not far
the deciduous(trees) deduce
They shed their leaves
and stand forlorn and sick
as the cold winterly breeze
tugs at their dried twigs
Roses and chrysanthemum
enjoy the soft sun
dahlias and calendulas
and other flowers
fill up the canvas

A month or two later
you can hear the twitter
bid goodbye to winter
After the chilling freeze
The 'flame of the forest'
flowers a bright orange
lights up the trees
The new mango blossoms
herald the arrival
of winter’s rival
The awesome Spring!
