A Visionary Reader Poem by Johnny Psalm

A Visionary Reader

I've heard of visionary readers
Who keep their fingers crossed every time,
Who burn candles to make their future bright.
Who invest into time and reap from life.

I've heard of many claiming dreamers,
Who mostly sleep every day and night,
Who spare black hair for sleep, but work with grey hair at night
Who spend before the mirror their entire life.

What makes one a blind day dreamer
And the other visionary owl at night?
The former sleeps, the latter studies all times,
Turning knowledge to gold, knowing time flies.

The world is full of nightmare and dream,
Fresh blossom and withering leaves.
Fresh fragrant and rotten stench flowers.
It is like race with athletes on the same line,
Competing for trophies, though at a time;
A working day saves you a sleepless night.
Many are called, just few cruise to the trophies.
why are some achievers, some losers,
Although they start the race at the same time?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Poem Analysis
I quote 'To be or not to be, that is the question' from the legendary and popular acclaimed work of Shakespeare 'Hamlet'. In the present epoch, there are many and different poeple, but depite the many, it is impossible for everyone to 'look towards a single direction ' because we all have our various views and different approach towards situation. Bleak as the future may be, hope is the main factor that will stir up our zeal and effort to endeavor and strive towards the material fulfillment of our our respective dreams; however, little frustration can result in permanent failure for the pessimistics.
The poem, wholly in its subject matter, represent and present two different categories of individuals in every society, 'the visionary reader' and 'the claiming dreamers'; however, the former 'keeps the fingers crossed' through earnest, diligent and persistent commitments', the latter, like mosquito before bulge without circumspection or like a blind man advancing towards a cesspool, 'sleep every day and night' not knowing full well that there is time for them to sleep eternally in the grave where no ambition or circumstances will wake them up. Being a 'visionary reader' encompasses optimism, prudence, diligence and self-commitment to the materialization of that dream. The 'visionary reader' anticipates a bright future, works towards it with consistency and commitment, and thus bring it to realization. Moreover, the ' the visionary reader...invest into time' so they must 'reap from life', whereas the 'claiming dreamers' hardly make any effort, but instead they 'spare black hair'(youth energy and strength) for 'sleep' and when they are somber, they spend that period admiring their physique and physionomy in the mirror, purchasing costumes for beauty improvements, because they want strong social attraction and public recognition and prestige, but afterwards they get their kamic reward for they spend their 'grey hair'(old age) toiling 'at night (when others have quit working) .
In the second stanza, the speaker rhetorically asks 'What makes one a blind day dreamer and the other a visonary reader at night' and proceeds to present the reason to us 'the former sleeps' during the day, while the latter 'keeps the fingers crossed' studying laboriously with relentless determination, and thus transform their 'knowledge to gold'(success and prosperity) , because they are aware that task is enormous for them, but they must excute it within the limited time of their existence.
Furthermore, life is emcompassed with different opposite issues, apparently in the presentation of the third stanza where we find the claiming dreamers wasting 'before the mirror their entire life' to observe their beauties, to dress their temporary beauty without any consideration to dress the future beauty that will remain with them for a lifetime. The question is 'what does the mirror mean to you and how does it present your image to you whenever you look at it?
The speaker along the line made a clear allusion to the bible(the ecclesiastical book and that of Matthew) to deeproot the imagery 'is like race with athletes on the same line,
Competing for trophies, though at a time/Many are called, just few cruise to the trophies.'. The speaker introduce a paradox , that could have been the poem title, to summaries the congent point ' a working day save a sleepless night'.
Finally the speaker asked us a question 'why some are achievers, some losers/although they start the race at the same time? '. This is the question I want you and I to always ask ourselves for us to succeed in life.

The mood/tone and diction
The vocabularies are simple to understand and does not pose much problems for us to keep consulting dictionary for meaning

Major theme.
Success is achieve through diligence
Vision without decision couple with proper execution leads to destination of failure
The beauty of the presence is nothing compared to the future.
Frustration is not an excuse for a failure, but 'suit your action to your word and your word to your action'.

Dedication
I dedicate my poetry first to God for the wisdom granted unto me to be able to write and critically analyze this poetry effectively.
I'm indebted to the ancient poets whose names have strived through and survive centuries for their meritorious contributions into the literary fied and because this generation of poets have used them as what I will call the 'sun' for the 'stars' to shine.
Finally, I will give thanks to Pedro Moshood whose poetry have encourage me zealiously to compose and submit and publish my first poem(although not the first have written, but that it is the first to appear on this website) on the website. Most of his articles are encompassed with overwhelming wisdom and what I should say is beyond is age. I pray that his ink never run dry.
