A Veteran Psyche Poem by Bakul Mattoo

A Veteran Psyche

She looked at the mirror
And gazed herself for hours
A question flared in psyche
When did she change so far?

Years ago, dawn to dark
She saw one reflection
A pretty in her pink dress
Chubby and adorable
A bag on shoulder
A flacon swinging in hands
Seemed as if
Getting ready for her school van...

She went school and came back
Surprised somehow,
By new appearance she had
Tall and Tall, grown so up
Ambassador dress with some hold in hands
Seemed as if
Going for a business plan...

She went for the caucus
And came back
But now starring herself
With a shy gaze
A bride in her bonnie garb,
looking like a fairy in the human land...

She got married and went happily
Then, saw in the mirror again
Glittering eyes with new hopes and desires
Waiting for someone special to arrive...

That someone arrived
Calling her maa
That made her feel
Unique from all
Lovely, charming, cheerful
Who made her feel
Like she never had...

Time swept on
Like a sea wave shackles
And hours later
She saw her again
Pale, tired and those crumples
Seemed as if
No fantasy was left
Anymore in those eyes
And soon she realized
Dawn was too close to her trail...

Steep, silent
Asked herself
Where lied that turning point?
How did she change so far?

Then she smiled, introspecting a while
Life was not too long to survive
Minded herself among the ones
Who failed to realize
The inner soul thriving inside
With whom she spent her whole life

But still caught that experience
Whom she could say...

'Deliberately Mine! '.....
