'Spoglio'

Là dove un tempo ero adorno di uno splendido verde
Forte e capace,
Ho iniziato a guastarmi.

Lentamente, ho iniziato a perdere pezzi di me stesso.
Non riesco a controllare questa decadenza;
Non riesco a fermarla:
Ho iniziato a rinsecchire.

Quando i venti, con forza,
Mulinano intorno a me,
Mi diventa sempre più difficile restare in piedi.
Là dove un tempo riuscivo a piegarmi,
Ora ho iniziato a spezzarmi.

Il terreno sotto di me,
Una volta umido e spugnoso,
Ora è cambiato, diventando
Arido e compatto.
Le mie radici si rompono.

Quando l'inverno arriverà
E le mie foglie saranno tutte cadute
E le mie radici essiccate,
Non reggerò il peso della neve.
Allora crollerò.

Quando l'ascia spezzerà la mia corteccia
E penetrerai nel mio cuore,
Vedrai allora chi sono:
Anello dopo anello, dopo anello, dopo anello..

Ricorda..

Inala allora il mio profumo;
Inala la mia energia.
E ricorda la mia bellezza
—Ricorda il mio sacrificio.

'Stripped Down' - by Pamela Sinicrope

I was once majestic and grand
Festooned with greenery
Strong and able
I've started to fail

I'm slowly losing pieces of myself
I can't control it
I can't stop it
I've started to dry up

It gets harder to stand up straight
When cyclonic forces
Whirl around me
Where once I could bend
I've started to break

When winter comes
And my leaves are all gone
And my roots are dried up
The weight of the snow will be too much
I will fall down.

When the axe hits my bark
And you break through my core
You will see who I am
Ring after ring after ring

Remember..

I was once a tall and fearless tree
Who will now be split, stacked up
And placed in the woodshed
Ready for the fire

When I burn
May my history and strength
Sustain your home
Warm your body
Fulfill your spirit

Breathe in my scent
Breathe in my power
Remember my beauty
Remember my sacrifice

Beautiful work. I can understand the Italian a little bit, with my Portuguese and Spanish background. I think I had already read Pamela's original, but I will go back to her page now and re-read this one and a few others. Thanks, Doctor Frosini!

caro Tom, sei davvero molto gentile: grazie per le belle parole e la stima - che ricambio con piacere [I'm sure you don't need a translation ;) ]

Pamela's verse is impossible to resist and so is yours. Two of my favourite poets for the price of one page! What more could I ask for? What a magnificent central image and beautifully realised in the English and the Italian. Best I've read today. Tom Billsborough
