A Temporary Blessing Poem by Richard St. Clair

A Temporary Blessing

Rating: 5.0

Spring is now a halcyon day today,
The temperature just right, the sun is shining,
The birds and bees are busily at work, dining,
The flowers soaking every available ray!
I wonder what approaching summer will bring:
Record data on thermometers?
Rain and floods in glutted quantum liters?
And will the songbirds finally cease to sing?
The astrophysicists predict our world
Some billions of years beyond where we now are,
A fiery rock, gorged by our failing star,
And every kind of life to perdition hurled.
But trending facts imply that all humanity
Will sooner be extinct by its own insanity.

The poem highlights the very important theme of global warming and other environmental issues. The last two lines are extremely powerful: " trending facts imply that all humanity Will sooner be extinct by its own insanity. "
