A Tear From Nobody Poem by William Baez

A Tear From Nobody

My sincerest.
Most deepest apology I send to you now.
From a place of deep, dark regrets.
I am sorry.

For being who I am:
I apologize.
For being less than what you wanted:
I apologize.
For not being as others are:
I am sorry.

These feeble words; with their arbitrary meanings.
Serve only as a mockery.
Of my sincerest and regretful feelings.

Perhaps I should be someone you love.
Someone who can love you, like they would.
To love you, as you ought to be loved.

With all excitement and enthusiasm,
you ought to be loved.
With joy and smiles, filled with everything humble and mild,
You ought to be loved.
With everything above and below, of which I am not nor will ever hope to be,
You should be loved.

For this I am sorry.
For being meager and helpless in relation to you.
I am sorry for not measuring up to your love,
And your beauty,
And your glorious life.

I know I can't and never will suffice.
But if my poor love means anything. Anything at all.
Then I know, that you will receive this apology.
That you would accept it.
And finally be rid of me, of me entirely.
Of all that I am.
And of all that I will never be.
