A Tale Of The Mind And Heart Poem by Luke Bushen

A Tale Of The Mind And Heart

One day the mind approached the heart
and said, 'What do you do?
What makes you so important,
and why do I need you? '

'Well, ' said the Heart, 'First of all,
I make what's called Love.
It makes one do things they never
before would have thought of.

It weakens great obstacles and
it strengthens Joy's embrace.
It acts as wings to transport people's
souls from place to place.

Besides Love, there's many different
emotions I create,
Such as Passion, Trust, Frustration,
Loneliness, and Hate.

These things create and destroy life,
they begin and end wars,
They carry weight and power,
they open and close doors.

People use and break me,
they drain my contents dry.
They fight for me and long for me;
over me they cry.

They neglect and nurture me;
by me, they come undone.
I'm everything to everyone,
and nothing to no one.

'Good heavens! ' the Mind gasped,
'I definitely don't need you.
You're far too dangerous a thing for
someone like me to use! '

So the Mind tied shut the Heart,
and buried it away,
And life was naught but black and white
ever since that day.
