A Stranger Poem by Iris Park

A Stranger

Who is this man I call daddy.
I can’t forgive you, because of what you did to me and mommy.
Now I’m fourteen almost turning fifteen in a couple of days.
Ever since I was little, I would always think about the promise that we made that you would come back for my birthday and Christmas.
You didn’t even come to visit for Christmas, your own son’s birthday, and your own son’s graduation.
Open your eyes and wake up to reality.
Do you not know how much you are hurting both of us?
I remember like it was yesterday.
A little boy just in second grade.
I went downstairs to give you a hug from not seeing you for a long time.
You bash my head on the wall not wanting a hug from your own child.
Your eyes were bleeding.
I see a monster
My face with big tears streaming down my face the look of fear.
You hit me again just because I asked you why
Why do you wish I would die?
Slap!
You never hear my screams
You always break my dreams
