A Storm Poem by Maritza Rivas

A Storm

He would shout like thunder
She would cry till there was no more tears to shed.
He tried to convince her, without noticing the flames.
She cried and screamed at him without noticing she was
making the fire dance.
Their little one woke up at the sound of loud thunder and pouring rain.
She noticed the little one run back to her room; frighten by the sight.
The little one didn't hear the thunder but she felt the atmosphere tense.
She went to check her child and noticed how frighten she was that she started to cry and so did the child when seeing her mother upset.
She asked the child
to please calm down.
The child tried but was too frighten to actually make a success.
She hugged the child believing some love would make it stop.
She said this in a low voice but loud enough for her child to hear,
'I promise you there won't be a storm again.'
