A Storm Poem by Katrina Lusk

A Storm

The sky is dark,
as I sit out here on the road.
Trying to look at the stars,
but they don’t show.
The street lights glare,
in indication that I’m alone..
The houses creek and trees sway,
in this place that I call home.
I feel raindrops fall to the ground,
hesitant to get up and walk in the door.
Windows flood with light.
As I begin to hear cars, ,
in the distance of the night.
I can feel the wind,
as it rushes between my toes.
I can feel but I can’t see,
the soft air that I breathe..
A red light from afar.
And I know its a turbine,
standing by a farm, .
Thinking back to where I was raised,
in the state of Ohio.
Full of agriculture and business,
the home of people who are infamous.
I’m snapped back to reality,
by the sound of a train coming.
There is nothing to do,
in a little town like mine.
Without a license,
or even ten cents to call a dime.
Looking back up at the sky,
you come into my mind.
With your dark blue eyes,
and a smile that skips the hands of time.
Only eight more months,
until I turn 18.
Ready to make a life of my own.
Not wanting to just talk to you,
before bed on the phone.
Could I have just one chance,
to lay with my head on your chest.
Slowly fall asleep,
as our hearts synchronize in beat.
The rain is falling harder,
the sound flooding into my ears.
It is as if Earth,
is catching all of the sky’s tears.
I want to be in your arms,
as this night goes on.
I get up off the road,
and walk through the door.
The radio on,
is playing one of our songs.
I go to bed,
knowing that you are thinking of me too,
