A Soldiers Thoughts Of Home Poem by George Bernard Hough

A Soldiers Thoughts Of Home

I am coming home as I wanted to do,
Returning to your` eager arms.
Being again with the one that I love
Once more to bathe in your`charms.
I yearned for so long to be with you again.
To hold our first child to my breast.
Telling you how we together would make
our own little family nest.
So just as I promised, I come home to you.
With these thoughts still inside my head.
Never once thinking through all this unrest,
That I would be coming home dead!
