A Single Saint Poem by Andrew Benton

A Single Saint

Rating: 5.0

A narrow ribbon, full of light,
wound around the mystic place,
where darkness meets the morning bright
and wakens souls to face the day.

It circled sylvan hills so pure
they seemed to spring from fables old,
which spoke of men of mighty heart,
and minds of matchless valor bold.

It crossed the boundary of time
which confines us in flaccid day-
unbound by eagerness or rhyme
it turned and ambled on its way.

Suns in clouds of violent red,
the universe without and end,
was laid out in its glor’ous flair
before our blind and passing friend.

The comet flew unto the realm
of boundless and unending grace,
bypassing wealth and riches rare
to run its own inspired race—

Among the stars it flew for years,
and nigh across the earth did trod,
until the sinner returned home
and looked upon the face of God.
