A Shadow Poem by Janie Neilson

A Shadow

Eyes glinting
Teeth flashing
Knife dripping
Red
With blood

Shouts echoing
Feet running
Closer, louder
A shadow
Slips away

Quiet in the moonlight
Silent in the moonlight
When morning comes
He won't
Remember where he's been

Knocking wakes him
Dragging takes him
Beatings make him
Red
With blood

Shaking body
Pounding chest
Heavy noose
Around his neck
Falling, falling
Sudden stop
A shadow
Slips away
