A Secret Untold Poem by Timothy Pierce

A Secret Untold

Through oceans of time and the dark of the night

I walk through the ages and ponder my plight

I can tell you of things, of times long since past

And I’ll sing of a love that I knew could not last

In the midst of the shadows my dream never ends

For it comes from a place where time never bends

A journey of love that has no end in sight

And the secret I hold with all of my might

I look in the distance on a hill far away

In my mind I can see her, she is begging to stay

With tears in her eyes she professes her love

She has the face of an angel and the voice of a dove

But this is a path that my fate won’t allow

For our love has been secret, at least until now

I kiss her and hold her while she’s asking me why

I am sorry my darling for it’s my time to die

Much to my sorrow, my fate had been laid

And it seems far too much, the price I have paid

My friend from the east has called it my gift

To me it’s a curse, my soul is adrift

My vision is torment, it’s sadness and pain

And I hope that my search has not been in vain

There is always a hope that maybe one day

Once again I’ll find her on that hill far away

Drifting through time without leaving a wake

With every tear that will fall and every friend that I make

I search for the eyes, when they meet we will know

It has finally ended and it's our time to go

So many times I try and I fail

Thinking I’ve found it and have now crossed the vale

Only to find that my heart told me wrong

And deep in my heart I sing the sad song

But a coward dies many before they are done

And as we all know, the brave dies but one

I have lived from within and died by the sword

And stood in the face of a vast mighty horde

Still the long ages will not let me sleep

And give me the peace that all of us seek

So where it began on that far distant hill

A secret flame burns so bright and so still

The secret you see lies deep in the past

The crime was committed and my die was cast

If I could tell you a secret, a secret of old

A secret so tragic that no one’s been told

You would then understand and realize in time

That this tale must end and the story is mine.
