A Royal Battle Poem by Gergana Teofilova

A Royal Battle

Back and forth, humiliated
By the Queen of Broken Dreams,
A dark spirit oscillated,
Repressing gently deriding screams
His complacent supplication,
Hidden underneath his veins,
Sought just nothing but some vindication,
Sneering at people’s gains

Black and gloomy, brazen-faced,
Two hungry eyes, condoning,
“The entire world has bloody taste,
I shall see them all atoning! ”
And yet the entity was not alone,
His loyal servants were by his side,
Hypocrisy and Anger liked danger-prones,
Deception praised the ones who lied

And Jealousy was there as well,
Insidiously sneaking by the watchful guards,
“Justice and Courage, you’re under a spell,
Sleep tight, my boys, like Shakespeare bards”
Then gnawing Greed so bluntly scoffed,
She felt like dragging all away,
“Don’t bother, sister, hold it off! - said Hatred
“The master shall make you pay! ”

She was standing behind the sin,
And her smile could overfreeze a rock,
Just like a spider trying to spin,
Adversity was her usual tool to stalk
They predicted that the castle,
Would much easily surrender,
But had forgotten that the Queen,
Relied on more than two defenders

“Make one more step and we swear…! ”,
Yelled two guards in silver robes,
“Whatever you dopes do, we don’t care”-
Retorted Hatred in a sulky voice
As they were fighting in the baleful dawn,
The dark spirit still concealed,
And so eager he seemed to pawn,
His forlorn face came up revealed

“I know your tricks, you pity things,
I’ve been eluding them for ages now
You’re Trust and Honor but seem to bring
False thoughts under a mawkish vow
Give up the castle and I’ll spare your lives,
If you recall the London flood”
“Save it, demon- you can’t deprive
The Queen of shedding your useless blood! ”

The dark spirit strongly laughed,
His guffaw rending mother Earth,
“And also part of Asia was not enough,
I made them tremble, all at birth
Another instance, my dear boys,
Is what happened in the big blue sky,
Where were you, when I decoyed,
All evil powers nearby?

It was such a pleasure to observe
New York City all in flames,
We undoubtedly got on their precious nerves,
The world bemoaned all o’ my games”
As he was talking, something groaned,
Inwardly, inside the place,
The Queen herself had finally shown,
She’d had enough of his audacious face

“You mercenary vicious soul! ”
The Queen was speaking to him at last,
“How dare you extol your goal,
By which so many were aghast? !
I thought I’d banished you away for good,
But I see you’ll never change,
You must be demolished, I wish I could,
Your wicked fellows must be estranged! ”

“Your Majesty”- the spirit said,
“I appreciate your efforts greatly,
Considering millions still live in dread
Your time’s been obviously wasted lately
You are powerless unless they learn,
How extremely perilous we are,
But I’m afraid their hearts shall burn,
It’s up to them, they’ve gone too far! ”
