A Rose At Hell's Gate Poem by Michael Hopkins

A Rose At Hell's Gate

So sad, black widow

Your heart flew to war's darkness

A rose at hell's gate

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Note: I wrote this yesterday after viewing a video documentary of poets and songwriter/musicians in Eastern Ukraine. One young woman who was a poet who carried so much sadness and had two husbands who died in the militias defending Eastern Ukraine was nicknamed, the Black Widow by Ukrainian trolls. The words just came to me. I do not know if the poem reached her as my only motive was to send her some kindness.

Powerful write. The futility and absurdity of war is captured with great depth.
