A Promise From My Love Poem by Michael John Cook

A Promise From My Love

She said she would return, over the rolling sea,
And so I wait for her to come back home to me,
I blew out the candle as I whispered 'goodnight'
The smoke illuminated by the moons white light,
A fear grew inside that I may never see her face again,
Or wake up lying next to my dearest loving friend,
A tear rolled over my trembling cheek,
Such a powerless feeling has left me so weak,
One thought alone allowed me to rest,
As I held a hand over the spot on my chest,
Where once she had laid her head and drifted to sleep,
A thought so full of hope that I began to weep,
My love, she promised to return to me,
Return to my arms, over rolling sea
