A Positive Person Poem by Francis Duggan

A Positive Person

He must feel that luck is not on his side
And from his personal cares he has nowhere to hide
One out ofa Job on the poor side of the town
Where many are homeless and financially down

Of late he is one who cannot seem to win
In some ways he feels lucky he has a home to live in
And enough food to eat and a comfortable bed to sleep in at night
Though life for him has become an uphill fight

Six months ago the factory he worked in went into liquidation and he became unemployed
And being on unemployment benefits does nothing for his pride
In his pursuit of a job start so many local businesses he has tried
His job searches for him disappointing in a part of the town where the unemployed numbers have multiplied

But for one of his years he does seem rather wise
And as a pragmatic person he has come to realize
That compared to many his problems must seem rather small
And life is not that hard on him after all

Though in life he is one who is struggling to cope
A positive person he is not without hope
Of a better future and it seems true to say
That a positive attitude in life can pay.
