A Piece Of Tinsel Poem by Loyd C Taylor Sr

A Piece Of Tinsel

Another Christmas has come and gone,
Celebrations are over too.
This old year will soon be ended,
As we face one all brand new.

Then I reflect on the placing
of the Christmas tree we chose.
Of the festive decorations
from the bulbs to mistletoe.

I remember the children gathering
around the Christmas tree so bright.
I can hear them joyously singing,
'Jingle Bells and Silent Night.'

Oh, such delightful laughter
as they opened gifts that day.
I smiled, pondering the old story
of Baby Jesus sleeping on the hay.

But that was then, and here we are,
taking it down to put away
all the Christmas decorations
which brought such joy on that day.

We have a place to store it all,
as the memories of yesterday.
Then I spot a piece of tinsel,
which made me relive it all today.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
About this poem: I love Christmas, but I must admit, it is a lot of work pulling out the decorations and putting them in place. But, once up, they sure do bring joy and wonderment as once again, we celebrate the birth of Christ. Then, too soon, it's all over and time once again to put everything away. Once done, it seems inevitable that a small tinsel piece will be spied in some corner or under a couch cushion. I pick it up and smile at the power that bit of trash has to bring Christmas back, even f for a moment.I hope you enjoy it, Loyd, the simple poet.
