A Pause Poem by Ludvig Von Himmelstein

A Pause

conscious of every move
measuring every clause
targeting every audience
waiting for applause

took a few days in the mountains
took a few days by a stream
still was self conscious
perchance to dream

it happens when not thinking
the river is a spirit
the trees bend in the breeze
fall asleep standing
unaware of a sneeze

get up to measure the time
breaking the moment for what?
to measure and plan ahead
thinking and worrying all the time

to sleep again standing!
as the trees bend in the breeze
river show your spirit
again!

full of intent
full of the cause, it will be
awhile before
you throw away your thread
your noisy self conscious head
a while again
until you pause
