A Not So Happy Time Poem by Ray Hansell

A Not So Happy Time

You found someone that you loved
Believing he loved you
That was until you saw
When his abusive side shined through

You shared with him a child
A happy time in life
A time for you to celebrate
For now you're a mother and a wife

But happy times and happy days
Didn't last for long
You had to protect your child
For both of you, you had to be strong

Soon that part of your life
Thankfully became your past
Because inside your heart you new
That union couldn't last

So, life continued forward
Like it does when we make change
It takes some time to readjust
But you already knew the rules of the game

Then, maybe with some good fortune
You'll find a gentleman
One who treats you like a lady
One who will never raise his hand
