A New Year Poem by Regena Kilgore

A New Year

As a new year comes in, I think of you,
I wonder what....I must do.
Is there a chance our love can last?
Should I move on, forget the past?
You are the one, I want by my side,
I'm sorry I hurt you, made you lose self-pride.
The mistakes I made, I made while healing.
Confused about, what I was feeling.
I was so afraid... afraid to believe,
thinking someday, you would surely leave.
I would be left then, all alone,
feeling the pain, of you being gone.
So I lied to myself, saying, you, I wouldn't need.
I had control of my heart, so it couldn't bleed.
Well, what I've came to realize,
Is.....I Love You........
My heart made the choice, it's simple but true.
So I stand here, dying, nothing seems real.
I can't see my future, yet I'm holding the wheel.
Only you, can breathe life into me,
please let me love you, or set me free...
I can't imagine, living life without you,
Yet this may be, what....I must do.
