A Land Far Away Poem by rashmi pradeep kumar

A Land Far Away

When the voice o’er the lonely hills
Fades into a mere whisper,
A fire inside me starts to burn
My mind thence starts to yearn.

I start up expectantly, looking up
Bur all that meets the eye are,
The green rolling hills and
The deep blue sky beyond.

A sweeping wind ‘bout me beckons
“Come o’er dear, come to our land”,
As I follow the wind bearing a sweet scent
Of a thousand flowers in full bloom.

To the land of surprises I walk
On to Fairyland, the mythical world,
Of fairies and demons, magicians and wizards
Of old crooning and cursing witches.

A Pegasus, by me, fly as I enter
The white sleek body by my side stands,
Towering o’er me in majestic splendour
“Well...what have we here? A small visitor I see! ”

“Bout to reply him I was, when sudden
A screech, long and loud startles me,
‘Twas an owl, who had come to perch on my shoulder
A snowy owl ‘twas, the one like Potter’s.

My new companions take interest in me
With them I toured the magical Fairyland,
There flow rivers of milk and juice
Dry fruits, like stones, stand amid these.

But a dark cloud of chocolate
O’ershadows the city, and from it,
Falls like thunder, raisins aplenty
And chocolaty drops fall on my face.

My friends rush me to search for a shelter
Risky ‘tis to stand there, they say..
This rain makes many creatures fight
Amongst themselves, no, tisn’t unusual here! !

They desert me for they want to fight
Maybe tis natural, I think,
Sudden, a ball of fire near me lands
And Rumpelstiltskin, following it, approaches me.

I start to run, screaming loud for help
I tumble on a bread rock and fall,
Waist deep into a chocolate-milk puddle
I hear him coming, “No don’t..please don’t, ” I say.

Someone started to shake me
With a cry I awoke, to find
My mother trying to rouse me from sleep
I sat up amazed, “But where is he? ”, I asked.

“Where’s who, my dear? , ” my mom asked,
My eyes fell on my nephew asleep near me,
And the big book of Fairytales on my lap
Lying open, as I fell asleep reading it out to him.
