A Heart Awake



The night crept early just this day
Sleep won me in its cruel way
Weary hours of long waiting
To hear one word of sweet caring
Wished I could decouple my shutters
Like Tom the cat with his matchstick bolsters
While the eyelids closed the heart refused
It kept awake with love suffused
The thirsty heart won over sleep
And widened itself for dreams to seep...
