A Hard Way To Die? Poem by Long Tooth

A Hard Way To Die?

It is said to be drug-free's a hard way to die,
to be s**t-faced is better, you feel far less pain
and the lessons life proffers can't touch you again!
But this sentiment's modern prescription and sold
in a market cash-drugged if God's truth can get told.
All those doped can't reveal restless bones from the grave
(or their queasy, churned stomachs) . Are pill-pushers brave?
Are there end of life prospects they hope to deny?

If real death is not painless, I'll face it but once.
I'll turn key of door's lock as so many before,
meet their uncertain outcomes. I choose to explore.
If death lurks past the threshold, is 'life' what I lose
or Christ's 'warmth' there to gain? I know what I will choose
though Christ's Grace hangs like death, gift's not mine while I live
prearranged by God's reason (that leaks like a sieve?)
May I live life, have faith, though all swear I'm a dunce!

I think PH 'said' in the 'notifications' that you'd submitted a 'new poem'. Did I misread PH's words? ? The date on this one is Monday, December 28,2020. ;) bri

Did I say you are a dunce? ? ? ! ! ! ! NO! ! ! I'm much too sweet to be so honest with you, my friend.
